Being told “you’re inflamed” can feel like an answer. It’s actually where the question starts. Inflammation is your immune system responding to something, and calming it down without finding that trigger is like turning off the smoke alarm while something is still burning in the oven.
In the third episode of our inflammation series, I cover the main places chronic inflammation tends to come from and the testing that can help you work out which ones matter for you. It’s rarely just one thing, and it isn’t the same answer for everyone.
In this episode:
- Why anti-inflammatory medications and supplements can help in the short term, but don’t remove the triggers for inflammation
- The blood sugar markers I look at beyond fasting glucose, and why insulin can rise years before HbA1c changes
- What hs-CRP, homocysteine, and a CBC with differential can tell you
- Checking for autoimmune activity with ANA and thyroid antibodies
- Key nutrients for inflammation and immune health: vitamin D, B12, folate, and ferritin
- Why “normal” and “optimal” lab ranges aren’t the same thing
- Food sensitivities vs. true allergies, and a simple elimination-and-reintroduction approach
- How toxins such as heavy metals, plastics, pesticides, and mold can keep your immune system on alert
- Why your gut, home to 70–80% of your immune system, is often the first place I look
- What a GI Map can show, including hidden infections, dysbiosis, calprotectin, and secretory IgA
